2014 Zoning Review -- Révision du zonage 2014

2014   Zoning Review
Over 30 zoning reviews will take place throughout Ottawa in 2014. Why? In 2013, City Council approved new official plan policies to create a more liveable Ottawa. To put these policies into action, the Zoning By-law needs to be updated. The 2014 Zoning Review will make that happen. Learn more about the project, view maps of the review areas and get details on Public Information Sessions at ottawa.ca/zoningreview. You may also email zoningreview@ottawa.ca or call 3-1-1 for more information. Sign up for the e-newsletter to receive all the news on the activities of the project.

Scoop that poop!

DID YOU KNOW...

Pet feces are an environmental hazard?

  • Dog poop doesn't biodegrade like wild animal poop. Because companion animals received a very different kind of food than their wild brethren, dog waste doesn't biodegrade as fast as wild animal waste. Along with the greater number of companion animals in our neighborhood parks and open spaces, this much more durable waste accumulates even faster.
  • Dog poop pollutes groundwater. No matter where you live, spring run-off or heavy rain storms dilute poop and wash it into streams and storm sewers, which generally flow UNTREATED into the rivers.  Dog poop then helps to raise the river's bacterial content, polluting beaches and waterways, and degrading the natural environment for fish, wildlife and people.

There is no poop fairy!
1. Pick it up and bring it home for disposal.
2. Dispose of it.  If you can flush it down the toilet, that's best!  Same goes for cat poop and diaper solids - all such poop can contribute to water pollution and disease even in landfill.

We need your continued help to keep our environment clean and healthy.  Responsible pet ownership is a part of the total solution.

This message is brought to you in part by the City of Ottawa and your Water Quality Partners in the Ottawa area.  For more information, call: 613-580-2400  or visit http://ottawa.ca/en/residents/animals-and-pets/dogs/5-reasons-why-you-should-stoop-and-scoop
