Dr. Ian Manion, the Executive Director 
for the Ontario Centre of Excellence 
for Child and Youth Mental Health, 
will talk about the vital role the 
family plays in the care and recovery 
of an individual with mental illness. 

The Oasis in Kanata is a community program 
of Glen Cairn United Church that offers 
information and support to caregivers of 
individuals with mental illness.

This Information Session is free 

and does not require preregistration. 

Refreshments will be served at the end 
of the evening.

Gerald Joy appointed The Oasis in Kanata 

Program Manager

The Oasis in Kanata is very pleased to 
announce that Gerald Joy has joined 
the team as Program Manager. 

Gerry takes over this  part-time 
position from Carol McMurdo 
Paton who retired in June. 
He comes well qualified to run the 
program, holding a Master’s of Social  
Work degree, and is a Registered 
Marriage and Family Therapist. As well, 

Gerry holds certificates  in Rational 
Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT); 
advanced training in Emotion Focused 
Therapy (EFT); and is a certificated 
facilitator and trainer in Restorative 
Practice (RP) and course facilitator 
of the Developmental-Attachment 

In addition to his  own 
Ottawa Therapy private practice, Gerry 
also works in both a hospital and in a 
community mental health setting. 
Gerry is  an active kayaker and 
cyclist, a proud father of two adult  
 children, and grandfather of 
two more.

 As well as managing the program, 
Gerry facilitates a monthly caregiver 
support group.
