Sidewalks on Chimo?

Phase Two of the city's proposed Pedestrian Master Plan calls for the construction of sidewalks on both sides of Chimo Drive.  We distributed the attached flyer to potentially affected residents.

September 9 Minutes approved as circulated 
President’s Review of KHCA activities from December 1st 2012 with and proposed activities for coming year and KHCA website notes are circulated to distribution list 
Treasurer’s Report on 2012-2013 shortfall $16 with all income and expenditures included   
Officers elected for 2013-2014 are President – Rod MacLean, Vice President - Marc Labreche, Secretary – Suzanne Talbot, Treasurer – Kul Kapoor effective November 1, 2013
Proposal to add a KHCA logo sign to City’s Community Sign at projected cost of $168.37
Mosquitoes were experienced as a problem this past year because of the frequent rainy days.     This is especially a concern for those with allergies and for those active adults and for children who are not to be couch potatoes.      Please note that when there is standing water in City parks or on other City property which needs to be sprayed  against mosquito larva, report it to the Health Inspector Duty Desk at 613-580-6744

City Budget: Women's Action Forum
Hosted by the City for All Women Initiative (CAWI)

Wednesday, November 6th 
6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

This fall, City Council will make budget decisions that will determine the city services we will have in our communities. Come join with other women to learn about the budget process and how you can raise your concerns.

Here is what we know so far:
•Draft City Budget 2014 - presented to Council on October 23rd
•Four public consultation meetings – Oct 28 to Nov 7 
•Committees receive delegations - Nov 5 to 25 
•Council votes on budget – Nov 27

Reimbursing Expenses: We have limited funds for those of us who need to have childcare, bus tickets or transportation reimbursed in order to participate. Help us keep parking costs low, by taking the bus or trying to find a parking spot that is free after 7 p.m.

À ce jour, nous savons que :
•Le budget provisoire de 2014 sera présenté au Conseil le 23 octobre
•Il y aura quatre consultations publiques – 28 octobre au 7 novembre
•Les comités recevront des délégations – 5 au 25 novembre
•Le Conseil procèdera au vote du budget – 27 novembre

Suburban driveway by-law amendments

Your feedback is requested within the next three weeks on the proposed Zoning By-Law amendments on suburban driveway requirements.

The proposed amendment to the text of the Zoning By-law will affect the rules governing residential driveways in Kanata and other outer suburban communities. A map showing the study area can be viewed at http://Ottawa.ca/driveways 
Details of Zoning By-law Amendment Proposal:
  • The purpose of the zoning amendment is to more readily allow residential driveways in the outer suburbs to be widened, subject to a maximum of 50% of the lot width or 2.6m, whichever is greater.
Approval Timelines & Authority:
  • Residents and community associations have to provide any comments to the planner by December 3, 2013.  Comments sent or copied to president@khca.on.ca prior to the end of the month will be considered in our response.
  • The target date for the application to be considered by the City’s Planning Committee is January 28, 2014.

Results of Survey on More Trees and Benches

Below are the lists where more trees were proposed and benches requested:

More Trees
  1.  Hewitt Park North Wood Area where trees have thinned out 
  2.  Haywood Park along pathways 
  3.  Hazeldean Woods in parts where trees have died 
  4.  Dunlop Park 
  5.  Young`s Pond Park where trees are thinning 
  6.  A few in tree thinned part of Irwin Gate Park 
  7.  A few in the few tree thinned areas of Dorey Park
Mores Benches
New benches should not be place to close to public garbage baskets. When they are too close the smell from the trash makes using the bench impossible.
  1. Haywood Park - benches outside of soccer fields 
  2. Cattail Creek Park -  behind KES, place a couple of benches near the top of the trails with a very nice view
  3. Beaufort Park - southern portion near street light
  4. Hazeldean Woods - along Kakulu, in lighted area generally in front of the Hazeldean Woods sign
  5. Larsen Park - Well lighted area at Kakulu end
  6. Pickford Park - in the well lighted area of south of the sidewalk 
  7. Castlefrank Road - Four or five benches along East side between MacNeil Court and Katimavik 
  8. Eagleson Road - A bench on the enlarged median at the Park & Ride crossing lights  
  9. Katimavik Road, north side, lighted area half way between Aird Place and Castlefrank Road
  10. Katimavik Road, north side, lighted area halfway between McGibbon Drive and Davis Avenue
