Councillor Hubley's NEWSLETTER 4th Quarter-2012

Monday, November 26, 2012
Welcome to my first quarterly newsletter! Thank you for your interest and please make any suggestions on issues you would like to read about in future editions.
My focus at city hall has been on getting the much needed infrastructure improvements for our Ward and you are beginning to view the results of these efforts. Highlights include:
$35 million to implement the solutions proposed as a result of the West End Flood Investigation of which I was actively involved from start to finish;
Improve the management of storm water and sanitary sewage systems throughout the west end including each area of our community;
Major upgrades to the hydro delivery systems for our area to ensure before new homes are added to the system we have a stable supply for existing residents. In 2013 most of the upgrades and significant capital investment by Hydro Ottawa should be delivering the hydro service you deserve;
Resurfacing and improvements to Fernbank Road from Terry Fox to Eagleson before the new Kanata South Walmart opened;
Added lights and improvements to the intersection of Cope and Terry Fox to ensure safer traffic movement;
Funding for upgrades to the water main service in multiple areas within the Ward to ensure a stable clean supply of drinking water for more residents;
Roadway improvements to Eagleson Road and Stonehaven Drive including the new roundabout that are expected to improve your commute in the future; and
Numerous other infrastructure improvements throughout our Ward.
I have also worked with my council colleagues to improve parks and recreation in our community in the following examples:
Freeze recreational fees for three budgets;
Opening the Richcraft Recreation Complex in 2013 to provide a large swimming pool and new playing fields to our community;
Secured over $500,000.00 in funding for the Kristine Kiss Park in Trails West making it a showcase of a family friendly multi use park;
Planning for Romina Park in Bridlewood Trails will be started in 2013;
Initial planning has been started for improvements to Stonegate Park in Katimavik;
Attracted private sponsorship to initiate enhancements to Young’s Pond park to restore its natural beauty; and
Working with the community in Bridlewood to determine a location for tennis courts and other future improvements
Examples of ongoing efforts on your behalf include:
Regular contact with the Transit Commission to identify improvements in the OC Transpo service; and with the Ottawa Paramedic, Police, Bylaw and Fire services to ensure you live in a safe and secure community; and
I work very hard to ensure that as your representative we now benefit from a positive relationship with the Mayor, my council colleagues and other levels of government.
I also have an excellent working relationship with both our MPP Jack MacLaren and MP Gordon O’Connor and other local elected officials that has allowed me to gain strong support for proposals involving other levels of government such as getting an Environmental Assessment started on finding traffic solutions for the long term in the Richmond and Hope Side Road area.
None of the above accomplishments could be done without their support.
Events coming up include:
