Public comment period on planned Hwy 417 lane and ramp closures

The Government of Ontario will be closing lanes at Eagleson Interchange and ramps at Eagleson and Castlefrank as part of Hwy 417 expansion. They would like to hear any comments residents may have before January 28, 2011. Visit the project website at www.highway417expansion.com for details.

Update 2011-02-09: The KHCA has expressed appreciation for the consultation period, and with concerns regarding the schedule of the northbound to westbound ramp closure (14 weeks starting September 2011), which could be affected by arrival of winter weather, and with the possible overflow onto Katimavik Road. We will post further updates when available.

Update 2011-06-03: Response from MOT has been received and posted here.

It is with regret that I have accepted Mr. Read's resignation as co-vice-president of the KHCA, over the dogs in parks issue which generated so much controversy.  We thank him for his brief time as a member of the executive and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

Thank you letter from KCHA President to attendees of January 3rd regular meeting

The following letter was emailed earlier today to all attendees who provided their email address:
Good Afternoon,

On behalf of the Katimavik-Hazeldean Community Association (KHCA), I would like to thank you for attending the meeting of January 3, 2011 at the Katimavik Community Centre.  The association greatly appreciates everyone who took the time to come out to express their views and to support those expressing views. We hope you will always feel welcome at future KHCA meetings.

First of all, thank you for drawing attention to late night partying that occurs in Sewell Park, Hazeldean Woods and elsewhere within our community. I have no doubt that City of Ottawa officials and the Ottawa Police will respond to all calls you make to help deter these activities from happening in the future.  Please take it upon yourselves to inform the KHCA of these types of situations so we may help focus on solutions within our community.

Equally important, we deeply appreciate everyone's views and opinions regarding the City of Ottawa - Dogs in Parks Policy.  The KHCA understands that the dog owners are satisfied with current city policy with respect to "Dogs in Parks" in the community and wish to leave this as is. None the less, we trust that as dog owners you will network and discuss amongst yourselves about whether you wish to work with KHCA and City of Ottawa officials towards establishing a fenced dog run (or two, if appropriate) within Katimavik-Hazeldean community.

Lastly, be assured that your community association, the KHCA, will observe the City’s requirements of City’s Dogs in Parks policy for notifying both park users and park neighbours of any and all proposed changes in the use or designation of a City of Ottawa park as its own.

We will be communicating developments on all issues of interest to the Katimavik-Hazeldean community through weekly newspapers (EMC Kanata and Kanata Kourier-Standard) and with postings on our KHCA website (www.khca.on.ca).  We trust that our new community interactive on-line presence the KHCA blog (http://khca.blogspot.com) will become the source for the latest news and opinions on matters that affect both you in particular and your community in general.

Thank you again and May you have a Happy New Year

Regards,

Rod MacLean
President,  The Katimavik-Hazeldean Community Association

KHCA blog now live!

We're pleased to add this blog (web log) to our website, as yet another way to keep in touch with our community.  Using a free blog service (in this case, Blogger) will allow us to communicate more effectively at no extra cost, plus it keeps a searchable history of all prior announcements.
So, feel free to speak your mind!  All comments (which will be moderated to avoid spam and other inappropriate messages) will be considered at the next meeting and responded to here as soon as practical.  Cheers!
