Heads-up: Proposed changes to antenna systems

We have been advised that the Planning and Growth Management Department has initiated an Official Plan Amendment for the purpose of deleting redundant provisions regarding Wireless Communication Facilities from the Official Plan (Section 3.1 – Generally Permitted Uses), and to replace them with a reference to the proposed Municipal Concurrence and Public Consultation Process for Antenna Systems.

As you may be aware, the Planning and Growth Management Department has undertaken consultation concerning the drafting of a Municipal Concurrence and Public Consultation Process for Antenna Systems, recognising Industry Canada’s authority over the installation of these systems, and the City’s opportunity to provide comments.

This Official Plan Amendment will follow Council’s adoption of the Municipal Concurrence and Public Consultation Process for Antenna Systems, and is currently scheduled for Planning Committee on November 22, 2011; Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee on December 1, 2011; and City Council on December 14, 2011. (NB: If Council fails to adopt the Municipal Concurrence and Public Consultation Process for Antenna Systems, this Official Plan Amendment will be withdrawn.)

For more information regarding the Municipal Concurrence and Public Consultation Process for Antenna Systems, please contact Rob MacLachlan at x. 28315 or refer to the website:

Note: what I think this means, in plain language, is that the city is considering deleting restrictions on antenna systems from planning documents, and subordinating us to whatever Industry Canada's decides. Don't take my word for it, check out the link to be sure!
