Katimavik-Hazeldean Express/Local Bus service to be Reduced

The OC Transpo 2011 Business Plan, section 2.5.2, outlines eliminating Express Route #64 in September, 2011. The plan is to add the former #64 onto the end of Express Route #63 after it has run through the current Express Route #63.

Express Route #62 is also included in the 2011 Business Plan list of routes to be consolidated to reduce duplication.

Further, the 2011 Business Plan, section 2.5.4, shows that local bus Route #161 is to be reduced to a peak hour service and as well certain sections of the current peak hour Route #169 are to be removed because of low ridership.

The elimination of Express Route #64 and consolidating Express Route #62 is part of a plan to save $17.7 million each full year beginning in 2012 by reducing to 95% the proportion of urban households within 5 minutes of peak hour service.

Reducing Route #161 to peak hour service only and removing sections of #169 are part of the plan to save $1.8 million each full year beginning in 2012 by reducing to 95% the proportion of urban households within 10 minutes of off-peak service.

The grand total of savings beginning in 2012 is to be $22 million indicated in Table 4 of the 2011 Business Plan (pdf).

This savings is to come along with the purchase of essentially single purpose Double-Decker buses.
